The Department of Visual and Media Arts in Emerson College’s School of the Arts offers two graduate degree programs: an on-campus Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Film and Media Art and a low-residency MFA in Writing for Film and Television.

Master of Fine Arts in Film and Media Art

In our on-campus MFA in Film and Media Art program, students create, challenge, move, and inform through art and expression. They work with image and sound, and traditional and emergent media forms, developing an understanding of film, video, audio, and interactive media production. And students will channel this understanding into the creation of multimedia works.

Master of Fine Arts in Writing for Film and Television (Low-Residency)

To stay competitive in today’s market, film and television writers need to be able to work across platforms and genres. Designed with this in mind, our low-residency MFA in Writing for Film and Television emphasizes the art and business of film and television writing, as well as innovative writing for other emergent forms of media, from long- and short-form films to series television and webisodes.
